I was originally born in Victoria, with half of my life spent there and the other half spent in Coquitlam. While in Victoria I attended View Royal Elementary School and then Esquimalt High School. When my family moved to Coquitlam, at my new high school, I never really heard anyone discussing post-secondary school plans. The handful of people that did, was because they wanted to be a doctor or go into a specific profession which required that level of education. I was always raised to believe that High School was the first step to something bigger and post secondary was going to help me achieve that.

For me, growing up, there was never a pressure to go to university, instead I was surrounded by 2 parents who had this amazing drive to be great in whatever they choose to do. They passed that drive down to me, and I used it for school, sport, and hobbies. So for as long as I can remember, I had it in my head that I was going to university so that I could be great.

When I started to pick programs for post-secondary, I always knew I wanted to go into business (I saw a movie when I was younger and wanted the career of the character portrayed). When I told friends and colleagues this they all thought that I should be a kindergarten teacher, because of my caring nature. But teaching was never a passion, so I went to Capilano University for general studies hoping to transfer to another school for a business program. After my first year, I realized that Capilano University offered a Bachelor of Business Administration program and transferred over. I eventually completed my degree after a mixed of full time and part time study in 2009. The HR component of my degree stems from that people person side of me that others thought would make me a great teacher.

In my career I have always strived to be constantly learning. I’ve had some tough jobs that taught me a lot about myself and my capabilities to move onto bigger and brighter things. I landed with AME in 2011, and even though I’m not an engineer, AME gives me the opportunity to be constantly learning about new subjects, people, and backgrounds.
